Razor-sharp teeth. Piranhas have rows of incredibly sharp teeth that fit together like puzzle pieces. These teeth are perfect for their main job of eating fish, though they're not nearly as deadly as Hollywood suggests.

South American dwellers. Piranhas live in rivers, floodplains, lakes, and reservoirs across South America. They've adapted perfectly to freshwater environments where they hunt and survive alongside thousands of other creatures.

Picky eaters aren't they. Despite their scary reputation, piranhas eat way more than just meat. They munch on plants too, making them omnivorous, which means they eat both plant and animal material depending on what's available.

Lots of species exist. Piranha isn't just one fish, it's actually a whole group of different species in the subfamily Serrasalminae. Each species has its own habits and preferences for food and hunting.
