Dragon Fruit

It's a cactus fruit. Dragon fruit grows on a special type of cactus called Selenicereus that loves warm, tropical places. The plant originally came from Mexico and Central America, but now people grow it all around the world.

That's where the name comes from. The fruit looks kind of spiky and wild, like something a dragon might guard, so people call it dragon fruit. Its other names are pitahaya and pitaya, which come from languages spoken in Central America.

Huge farms in China. Even though dragon fruit started in Mexico and Central America, China and other Asian countries now grow tons of it. The fruit also thrives in hot places like Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Sweet and crunchy texture. The inside of a dragon fruit is either white or bright magenta colored, and it's filled with tiny black seeds that you can eat. The whole thing tastes sweet and tropical, kind of like a kiwi and a pear had a delicious fruit baby.

Looks stunning in fruit bowls. With its bright pink or purple skin and green leafy crown, dragon fruit is one of the most beautiful fruits you can buy. People often use them for fancy desserts and smoothie bowls because they look so spectacular.
