Always Growing Tissues. Plants have special areas called meristems at the tips of their roots, stems, and leaves that keep making brand new plant parts throughout the entire plant's life. This means a plant is never truly finished developing, unlike animals.

Built-in Baby Factories. Because plants have these meristems, they always carry embryonic (baby) tissues with them. These growing tips let plants keep sprouting new buds, shoots, leaves, and roots whenever they need them.

Animals Are Different. Animals are the opposite of plants. An animal gets all its body parts before it's even born, and after birth it just gets bigger and more mature but doesn't grow new body parts.

Universal Growth Limits. Both plants and animals go through a special developmental stage called a phylotypic stage that happened independently in their evolution. This stage creates natural limits on how different their body shapes can become.

Endless Possibilities. Because plants can keep adding new parts forever, they can adapt to their surroundings in amazing ways, like growing roots deeper when soil is dry or reaching higher toward sunlight.
