Giant Honking Nose. Male proboscis monkeys have much larger noses than females, and scientists think the biggest noses help them attract mates and make loud honking calls that echo through the forest.

Mangrove Masters. These monkeys are perfectly adapted to life in the swampy mangrove forests of Borneo, where they leap through trees and even swim between islands using their strong, rudder-like tails.

Picky Eaters. Proboscis monkeys have special stomachs with multiple chambers that help them digest tough unripe seeds and leaves that would make most other animals sick.

Troop Living. They live in groups of up to 30 monkeys, and young males often form bachelor groups before finding their own families.

Disappearing Forests. These incredible monkeys are endangered because mangrove forests in Borneo are being cleared for farms and development, leaving them fewer places to live.
