Quantum weirdness. Unlike regular computers that use bits (0 or 1), quantum computers use quantum bits or 'qubits' that can be both 0 and 1 at the same time, a property called superposition. This lets them explore many possibilities simultaneously.
Spooky connection. Quantum computers use entanglement, where two qubits become mysteriously linked so that measuring one instantly affects the other. This strange connection helps quantum computers solve complex problems faster.
Speed advantage. For certain tasks, quantum computers could be exponentially faster than regular computers, meaning they solve problems that would take classical computers thousands of years in just hours or days.
Code breaker potential. A large-scale quantum computer could break many of the encryption methods we use today to protect secrets online, which is why scientists and security experts are paying close attention.
Still experimental. Today's quantum computers are mostly experimental prototypes that only work well for specialized tasks, not everyday computing like browsing the internet or playing games.
