Ancient Andes voices. Quechuan languages started in central Peru thousands of years ago and spread across the Andes mountains as people moved and traded. Today, they are the most spoken pre-Columbian language family in the entire Americas.

Millions still speaking. Between 7 and 10 million people speak Quechuan languages today, making them incredibly alive and vibrant. In Peru alone, about 14 out of every 100 people speak one of these languages.

Spread across countries. Quechuan languages aren't just in Peru anymore. They spread to other Andean countries like Bolivia, Ecuador, and beyond as people traveled and settled in new places.

One family tree. All Quechuan languages come from one ancient ancestor language called Proto-Quechua, kind of like how English, Spanish, and German all come from an older Germanic language.
