Queen Angelfish

Royal crown spot. The queen angelfish has a distinctive dark spot or "crown" on its forehead that looks like a tiny tiara, which is how it got its fancy name.

Western Atlantic home. These fish live in warm coral reefs across the western Atlantic Ocean, where they swim among colorful corals and rocky outcrops.

Brilliant blue and gold. Queen angelfish are named for their stunning coloration, with bright yellow bodies, electric blue fins and edges, making them one of the prettiest reef fish.

Similar but different. The queen angelfish looks very much like the Bermuda blue angelfish, and the two species can even interbreed, but the crown spot on the forehead tells them apart.

Bottom dwellers. These fish are benthic, meaning they live and feed along the bottom and lower levels of the reef rather than in the open water.
