Invisible waves carry sound. Radio waves travel through the air from broadcasting towers to your radio receiver, carrying music, news, and conversations without any wires needed.

Stations broadcast from land. Most radio stations you listen to transmit from towers located on the ground in cities and towns, reaching listeners within a certain distance.

Different types of broadcasts. AM and FM are the most common radio types you hear, but there's also DAB (digital audio broadcasting) and satellite radio that comes from stations orbiting Earth in space.

Satellites in the sky. Some radio signals come from satellites floating above Earth, beaming audio down to receivers on the ground, which is how satellite radio works.

You need a receiver. To listen to radio broadcasts, you need a radio receiver (like the one in a car or your phone) that picks up and decodes these invisible radio waves into sound.
