Underground anchors. Roots grow down into the soil and hold plants firmly in place, kind of like how a tree needs strong roots so it won't topple over in the wind.

Water delivery system. Roots act like tiny straws, soaking up water from the soil and delivering it up through the plant so leaves and flowers can stay healthy and vibrant.

Nutrient hunters. As roots pull water from the soil, they also grab important nutrients like nitrogen and minerals that plants need to grow taller and stronger.

Above-ground roots too. Some plants have aerial roots that grow up above the ground or even above water instead of staying buried, which helps them in special environments like tropical rainforests and swamps.
