Queen's special food. Royal jelly is a thick, creamy substance that worker bees produce from glands in their heads. Baby bees that will become queens eat royal jelly their whole lives, while other larvae get it for just a few days.

Made by nurse bees. Young worker bees called nurse bees secrete royal jelly to feed the colony's larvae. These helpful bees produce the jelly from special glands and feed it to hungry baby bees.

Makes queens powerful. The larvae that eat royal jelly throughout their development become much larger, stronger queens instead of regular worker bees. This amazing food transforms them into the colony's most important members.
