Mountains everywhere. Rwanda is dominated by mountains and highlands in the west, with tropical weather that brings rain twice a year. The country sits in the Great Rift Valley, one of the most dramatic geological features on Earth.
Volcanic peaks. Several volcanoes that form part of the Virunga volcanic chain rise up in Rwanda's northwest, creating a dramatic and rugged landscape.
Kigali is the heart. Rwanda's capital city, Kigali, sits right in the center of the country at about 1,567 meters above sea level, making it a high-altitude city.
Packed with people. Rwanda is the 21st most densely populated country in the world, with about 578 people living in every square kilometer. That's a lot of neighbors in a small space!
Lakes and water. The largest and most beautiful lakes are found in the western and northern regions, making those areas extra green and lush.
