Master mapmaker. Champlain was one of the first people to carefully map the coasts and rivers of what is now Canada and the northeastern United States. His detailed maps helped future explorers understand the landscape.

Founded Quebec City. In 1608, Champlain established Quebec City as a permanent French settlement. It became the heart of New France and grew into one of the most important cities in North America.

Fearless explorer. Champlain made multiple dangerous ocean voyages across the Atlantic Ocean between France and North America, helping to establish regular contact and trade between the two continents.
