Cool Facts
Ocean currents form borders. Four powerful ocean currents spin around the Sargasso Sea like a circular fence, creating an area of water that has no land boundaries at all.
Floating seaweed everywhere. The sea is filled with brown Sargassum seaweed that floats on the surface, giving the water a special color that makes it look totally different from the rest of the Atlantic Ocean.
Located in the Atlantic. The Sargasso Sea sits in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the United States and southeast of Canada.
Home to unique creatures. Eels swim thousands of miles to this sea to lay their eggs, and baby fish called eels spend years living in the seaweed before swimming back to rivers and streams.
Calm waters. The Sargasso Sea is known for its peaceful, calm blue waters, which makes it very different from the choppy waves you find in other parts of the ocean.
