Grid-based word game. Scrabble is played on a 15 by 15 square board where players take turns placing letter tiles to form words that read across or down, just like in a crossword puzzle.

Points and scoring. Each letter tile has a point value, and players earn more points by placing tiles on special squares like Double Letter Score or Triple Word Score, making smart placement a huge part of winning.

Two to four players. The game works great with 2, 3, or 4 people, and each player draws tiles from a bag and tries to use their letters to make the highest-scoring words possible.

Dictionary rules. All words must be real words found in a standard dictionary or official word list, so you can't just make up a word and hope it counts.

Competitive worldwide. Scrabble has official tournaments and champions around the world, and serious players study massive word lists to master unusual words and obscure two-letter combinations.
