Cool Facts
Thousands of species. Seaweed isn't just one thing, it's thousands of different kinds of big algae living in the ocean. They come in three main colors: red, brown, and green.
Nurseries for fish. Some seaweed like kelp create safe homes for young fish and other sea creatures to grow up in. This helps protect the fish we eat and keeps ocean food chains healthy.
Makes half our oxygen. Tiny seaweed floating in the ocean does an amazing job, producing at least half of all the oxygen we breathe on Earth. They're like invisible underwater factories for the air we need.
Carbon capturing power. Seaweed absorbs carbon from the ocean and helps clean up our planet by storing it away. This makes seaweed important for fighting climate change.
