Created in 1995. Two friends named John Baur and Mark Summers from Albany, Oregon invented this playful holiday and decided September 19 would be the perfect day for everyone to say things like 'Ahoy!' and 'Arrr!'
Talk like a pirate. On this day, people use pirate words and phrases, roll their Rs, and imagine how a swashbuckling sea explorer might talk about their everyday activities.
Celebrated worldwide. What started as a joke between two friends has grown into a worldwide celebration where people of all ages have fun speaking in pirate lingo.
