Tin Cries Out. When you bend a bar of tin, it makes a special sound called the tin cry. This happens because the tiny crystals inside the metal shift and rub against each other as you bend it.
Softer Than Most. Tin is so soft that you can cut it with a regular knife and even bend it by hand without any tools. This makes it very different from the hard metals you might be thinking of.
Element Number 50. Tin is a real chemical element with the symbol Sn, which comes from an old Latin name. It sits at number 50 on the periodic table of all the elements.
Shiny Gray Metal. Tin has a metallic gray color and shine that makes it look like other metals you know, but it is much softer and easier to work with than iron or steel.
