Flying disc game. Ultimate is played with a hand-thrown disc (similar to a frisbee) that players pass to teammates to move down the field and score in the end zone.

Born in New Jersey. Ultimate was invented in 1968 by Joel Silver, Buzzy Hellring, and Jonny Hines in Maplewood, New Jersey, and has grown into a sport played all around the world.

Players referee themselves. Unlike most sports, ultimate players call their own fouls and make their own rulings, even in championship competitions, which builds trust and honesty in the game.

No contact allowed. Players cannot bump or push each other, making it a totally non-contact sport where even tiny contact counts as a foul.

Weather changes everything. Rain and wind can make ultimate matches super tricky because the disc flies differently, leading to more turnovers and intense, fast-moving play.
