Quarter mile legend. These horses get their name from their ability to win races of a quarter mile or less, which is where they're truly unbeatable. They've been clocked at speeds up to 44 miles per hour in short bursts.
Powerful build. Quarter Horses have muscular, compact bodies that give them explosive speed over short distances. Think of them as the sprinters of the horse world, unlike taller horses built for long-distance running.
Colonial roots. The American Quarter Horse breed started developing all the way back in the 1600s in colonial America. Ranchers and settlers bred them to be fast, strong working horses.
Ranch favorites. Quarter Horses became beloved on ranches and farms because they're quick, agile, and easy to train. Their abilities make them perfect for herding cattle and western riding.
