Heart is a pump. William Harvey figured out that the heart isn't just a hot, pulsing organ - it's actually a pump that squeezes blood through tubes (veins and arteries) all around your body. Before him, people had no idea how blood moved.

Blood circles around. Harvey discovered that blood doesn't slosh around randomly inside you. Instead, it travels in a complete loop: from the heart to your lungs to pick up oxygen, then back to the heart, then out to the rest of your body, and finally back to the heart again.

Used real experiments. Unlike many doctors of his time who just believed old ideas, Harvey actually watched and measured how blood moved in living animals. He did careful experiments to prove his ideas were right.

Brain gets fresh blood. Harvey showed exactly how blood travels all the way up to your brain and delivers the oxygen it needs to think, remember, and feel. This was brand new knowledge in the 1600s.

Changed medicine forever. When Harvey published his discovery in 1628, it completely changed how doctors understood the human body. His work became one of the most important breakthroughs in the history of medicine.
