Super bendy branches. Willow branches are so flexible that they bend without breaking, which is why people have used them for centuries to make baskets, furniture, and fishing rods.

Water magnets. Willows grow best in wet, damp soils near rivers and streams, and their roots actually help hold soil together so riverbanks don't wash away.

Hundreds of cousins. There are around 350 different species of willows, including trees and shrubs, found across cold and temperate regions around the world.

Leaves fall in winter. Most willows are deciduous trees, meaning they drop all their leaves when autumn arrives and then grow new ones again in spring.
