Tuxedo outfit. Adélie penguins have white bellies and black backs and heads, making them look like they're wearing formal tuxedos all the time.
Antarctic champions. They live all around Antarctica's coast and are one of only two penguin species that live farther south than any other penguins (the other being the emperor penguin).
Krill hunters. These penguins dive into the ocean to catch krill, tiny shrimp-like creatures, along with fish to eat.
Named after a woman. The penguin was named after Adélie Land, which was named for Adèle Dumont d'Urville, the wife of French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville, who discovered them in 1840.
Deep divers. Adélie penguins are skilled swimmers that hunt in the cold Antarctic waters, using their flippers to zoom through the ocean like little underwater rockets.
