Giant of scorpions. The emperor scorpion is one of the largest scorpions on Earth, living in the rainforests and savannas of West Africa for six to eight years.

Glows under UV light. Although its body is black, the emperor scorpion glows in beautiful pastel green or blue colors when exposed to ultraviolet light, just like all scorpions do.

Popular as pets. Many people keep emperor scorpions as pets because they are fascinating and impressive creatures, making them one of the most popular scorpion species in the pet trade.

Protected by law. Emperor scorpions are protected by CITES, an international agreement that limits how many can be caught from the wild, to make sure the species survives and thrives.
