Cool Facts
Huge water hunter. The African fish eagle is a large eagle that lives near big lakes, rivers, and wetlands all across sub-Saharan Africa wherever there's plenty of fish to catch.
Four nations' symbol. This eagle is so important and impressive that it's the national bird of Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, appearing on their flags and in their hearts.
Many language names. People across Africa call this eagle different names in their own languages, like nkwazi in Chewa, hungwe in Shona, and inkwazi in isiZulu, showing how well-known it is.
Not a bald eagle. Even though the African fish eagle might look like North America's bald eagle, they're not closely related at all and live on completely different continents.
