Massive size champion. African bush elephants are the largest land animals alive today, with fully grown males standing about 10 to 11 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 6.9 tons, though the biggest one ever recorded was nearly 13 feet tall.

Trunk with fingers. Their long trunk has two finger-like processes at the tip that help them grab tiny objects with incredible precision, making their trunk one of the most useful tools in the animal kingdom.

Ears like giant fans. Their enormous ears aren't just for hearing, they actually help cool the elephant down by releasing heat from the blood vessels inside them.

Beautiful curved tusks. African bush elephants have sturdy tusks that curve gracefully outward, which they use for digging, stripping bark, and other daily tasks.

Built for hot places. Their grey skin has cracks and wrinkles that trap water to help keep them cool in the African savanna, and their sparse hair means less heat gets trapped against their body.
