Tower prisoner. Rapunzel is locked away in a tall tower by a witch who keeps her isolated from the world. She passes her time singing and letting down her famous long hair so people can climb up to visit her.

Ancient story roots. This tale started in Italy as Petrosinella in 1634, then became the French tale Persinette in 1698, and finally reached its most famous form when the Brothers Grimm published their German version in 1812.

Hair of legend. Rapunzel's hair is so long and strong that it works like a rope for people to climb. Her magical hair is the key to everything that happens in the story.

Sisterly versions. Different countries told their own versions of Rapunzel's story, each adding their own details and changes to make it special for their culture.

Brothers Grimm. The Grimm brothers collected and wrote down fairy tales from German folklore, and Rapunzel became one of their most beloved stories that kids still read today.
