Inflates in milliseconds. Airbags blow up incredibly fast, faster than you can blink. They have to inflate and be ready to cushion you in just the time it takes for a crash to happen.

Soft cushioning protection. When a car crashes, airbags fill with air and create a soft pillow between you and the hard parts of the car. This reduces injuries by stopping you from hitting the dashboard or steering wheel.

Part of the safety system. Airbags work with seatbelts and other safety features to protect car passengers. They're not meant to work alone, but together with seatbelts to keep everyone safer.

Sensors detect crashes. Special impact sensors inside the car feel when a crash is happening and send a signal to instantly inflate the airbags. The system has to be super smart to know when to activate.

Deflates right away. After the airbag puffs up to protect you, it deflates again within seconds so it doesn't suffocate you or block your view.
