Desert Builders. The Ancestral Puebloans lived in the Four Corners region where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado meet today. This dry, rocky landscape became home to one of North America's most remarkable ancient cultures.

Amazing Architecture. They built incredible structures including cliff dwellings tucked into canyon walls and multi-story pueblos (pueblo means village in Spanish). Some of their ruins, like Mesa Verde, still stand as amazing examples of their engineering skills.

Expert Craftspeople. The Ancestral Puebloans were known for making beautiful baskets, pottery, and woven goods. Their craftsmanship was so skilled that their culture was originally called the Basketmaker-Pueblo culture.

Long History. This civilization developed from earlier peoples like the Oshara tradition and Picosa culture, showing how cultures evolved over thousands of years. They thrived for over a thousand years before eventually moving to other areas.

Farmers and Hunters. They grew corn, beans, and squash in the desert and also hunted animals to survive. Over time, farming became more important as they learned to make the most of limited water.
