Andean Condor

Massive wingspan. The Andean condor can stretch its wings up to 3.3 meters across, about as wide as a small car. That makes it one of the largest flying birds on the entire planet.

Mountain home. These giant vultures live in the Andes mountains of South America and along the nearby Pacific coasts. The high, rocky peaks are perfect places for them to soar and hunt.

Largest bird of prey. With a weight of up to 15 kilograms (33 pounds), the Andean condor is generally considered the world's largest bird of prey. Only a few other birds can match its sheer size and power.

Sole survivor. The Andean condor is the only living member of its genus, called Vultur. This makes it extra special and unique in the bird world.

Expert scavenger. As a vulture, the Andean condor hunts for food by soaring high in the sky where it can spot dead animals from far away. Its sharp eyes help it find meals across vast areas of mountains and coastline.
