Stretches for Miles. The Appalachian Mountains run from eastern Canada down through the eastern United States, creating one of North America's most important geographic features. This mountain range spans thousands of miles across multiple countries.
Super Old Rock. These mountains are among the oldest mountain ranges on Earth, formed over a billion years ago when continents collided. They have been worn down and reshaped over countless millions of years.
Different Names. The U.S. calls its part of these mountains the Appalachian Highlands, while Canada calls its section the Appalachian Uplands. Even though they use different names, they're all part of the same mountain system.
Varied Terrain. The Appalachian Mountains include not just tall peaks, but also plateaus, valleys, and rolling hills. The Appalachian Plateau is actually just one part of this larger mountain region.
