Tallest in the world. The Statue of Unity stands 182 metres high, making it taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York and Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. It's the world's biggest statue of a single person.
Honors Sardar Patel. The statue depicts Sardar Patel, an independence leader who became India's first deputy prime minister and home minister. He lived from 1875 to 1950 and was one of India's most important founding figures.

United India's pieces. Sardar Patel played the biggest role in bringing together all of India's many kingdoms and states into one unified country after independence. Without his work, India might have stayed divided into hundreds of separate regions.
Built by a river. The statue stands in the Narmada valley in Gujarat state, near the Sardar Sarovar Dam, about 100 kilometres from the city of Vadodara. It faces the river in a colony called Kevadiya.
