Super long hike. The Appalachian Trail stretches almost 2,200 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia all the way to Mount Katahdin in Maine, passing through 14 different states along the way.
Only for walkers. The Appalachian Trail is the world's longest hiking-only trail, which means you can only walk or hike on it, not bike or ride horses like on some other trails.
Millions of hikers. More than three million people hike at least part of the Appalachian Trail every year, from people taking short weekend walks to adventurers hiking the entire thing.
Through the mountains. The trail winds through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States, passing through forests, over rocky peaks, and past amazing views.
Specially protected. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is an organization that helps protect and maintain the trail so that hikers can enjoy it for many years to come.
