Appalachiosaurus

Eastern dinosaur hunter. Appalachiosaurus lived in what is now the eastern part of North America during the Late Cretaceous period, making it one of the tyrannosaurs that roamed that region.

Teenage giant. The only skeleton we have found belongs to a young Appalachiosaurus that was about 21 feet long and weighed around 1,373 pounds, but adults would have grown even bigger and heavier.

T. rex's relative. Appalachiosaurus was a basal eutyrannosaur, meaning it was closely related to true tyrannosaurids like T. rex, though it lived before them and shared many of their hunting features.

Two-legged runner. Like all theropods, Appalachiosaurus walked and ran on two powerful back legs while using its arms and tail for balance as it hunted for food.
