Arctic Wolf

Coldest home ever. Arctic wolves live on Canada's frozen Queen Elizabeth Islands, north of the treeline where trees cannot grow. They spend their entire lives in this icy world, never moving to forests like some other wolves do.

Also called the white wolf. This subspecies has several names including the white wolf, polar wolf, and Arctic grey wolf. The white and pale fur helps them blend into the snowy landscape where they hunt.

Island masters. Arctic wolves live on islands like Melville Island and Ellesmere Island in the far north of Canada. You'll only find them in the High Arctic tundra, which is one of the most extreme places on Earth.

Staying put in the cold. Unlike some wolf populations that move between tundra and forests with the seasons, Arctic wolves stay in their frozen home all year round. Their southern range only reaches the middle Arctic tundra on Prince of Wales and Somerset Islands.
