Dancing in Water. Synchronised swimmers perform routines set to music, moving together in perfect timing just like dancers on a stage, except they're doing it while floating and swimming underwater and on the surface.
Super Hard Training. These athletes must be incredibly strong swimmers and flexible dancers at the same time, training for hours to nail every move and make it look easy and beautiful.
Governed Globally. World Aquatics is the organisation that sets the rules and runs competitions for synchronised swimming around the world, including at the Olympics.
Mostly Women, Now Changing. For a long time, synchronised swimming was mainly for women, but recently men started competing in duets and individual events, and from 2024 they can join team competitions at the Olympics too.
Artistic Expression. The sport is also called artistic swimming because it's about creating beautiful, artistic performances in the water, not just racing to see who's fastest.
