Fortress of the Gods. Asgard was described as a fortified home where the Æsir gods, the most powerful deities in Norse mythology, lived together. It was protected by walls and gates that kept it separate from the rest of the universe.

Gleaming with Gold. Asgard was often associated with beautiful gold imagery in the old stories, making it sound like the most dazzling and precious place imaginable. The gold reflected the power and importance of the gods who lived there.

Multiple Realms Inside. Asgard contained other special locations within it, including Valhöll (the great hall where brave warriors went after death) and Iðavöllr (a special plain), all described in ancient Norse texts called the Eddas.

Like Mount Olympus. Asgard served the same role in Norse mythology that Mount Olympus did in Greek mythology, both being the grand homes of their respective gods in the sky above the mortal world.
