More than 20,000 species. Bees come in thousands of different kinds all around the world. Only a few like honey bees and bumblebees live in big colonies together, but over 90% of bees are solo artists that live on their own.

Some live in colonies. Honey bees, bumblebees, and stingless bees work as a team in colonies where thousands of bees live together with a queen. They share jobs like gathering food, caring for babies, and building their home.

Most live alone. Mason bees, carpenter bees, leafcutter bees, and sweat bees prefer the solo life. These bees make their own tiny nests and raise their own babies without any help from other bees.

Part of a big family. Bees belong to a special group called Hymenoptera, which also includes wasps and ants. They're all related and share special features like having two pairs of wings.
