Bennu: The Egyptian Bird of Rebirth

A Celestial Bird. Bennu was depicted as a large bird, often shown with a long neck and a double crown on its head. Ancient Egyptians believed this magnificent creature represented the sun god and the cycle of life and death.

Symbol of Creation. Bennu was connected to the sun rising each day and the creation of the world itself. Egyptians thought of Bennu as the force that brought new things into existence and made life possible.

The Bird of Forever. This god represented rebirth and renewal, the idea that life comes back again and again. Just like the sun dies at night and is reborn in the morning, Bennu symbolized this endless cycle of returning to life.

Inspired the Phoenix. Bennu may have been the original inspiration for the phoenix, the legendary bird from Greek myths that bursts into flames and is born anew from the ashes. The phoenix story might have traveled from Egypt to Greece through ancient trade and storytelling.
