Black-headed Gull

Lives across two continents. Black-headed gulls breed throughout much of Europe and Asia, and some even live in coastal eastern Canada. They're one of the most widespread gull species in the world.

Great travelers. Most black-headed gulls migrate south for winter to find warmer weather and more food, but many stay in the milder areas of northwestern Europe where it's not too cold.

Dark cap, light body. These gulls have a distinctive dark brown or black head during breeding season, which is how they got their name. The rest of their body is white and gray.

Small compared to cousins. Black-headed gulls are smaller than many other gull species, making them easier to spot in flocks of bigger birds at beaches and harbors.
