Spiky berry bushes. Blackberries grow on thorny plants called brambles that belong to the Rubus family. The thorns protect the berries from hungry animals until they're ripe and ready to eat.

Super confusing cousins. Blackberries are so good at making hybrid babies with their relatives that scientists used to mix up different species. It's like having cousins who look so similar that nobody can tell them apart.

Growing everywhere wild. Blackberry plants grow naturally in temperate regions all around the world. People have been gathering wild blackberries from bushes for thousands of years.

Tiny seeds inside. Each blackberry is actually made up of tiny little drupelets (berry bits) clustered together, and each one has a hard seed inside. When you bite into a blackberry, you're eating hundreds of these little pieces stuck together.
