Cool Facts
Born in Turin. Breadsticks, called grissini in Italian, first appeared in the Italian city of Turin in the Piedmont region. They became so popular that people still call them grissini torinesi, which means 'breadsticks from Turin.'
Pencil-thin shape. These breadsticks are about the size and thickness of a pencil, which makes them perfect for snapping off one stick at a time. Their long, thin shape helps them bake until they're perfectly crispy all the way through.
Super crispy and dry. Unlike soft bread, breadsticks are baked until they're completely dry and crunchy. This crispiness is what makes them special, and it's also what helps them stay fresh for a long time.
