Cool Facts
Squeezed from apples. Apple juice starts when apples are pressed and squeezed to release all their liquid. This process is called maceration and pressing, and it's how we get that tasty juice out of the fruit.
Cleaned up to be clear. The fresh juice contains starch and pectin that make it cloudy, so scientists use special processes like centrifugal clarification to remove these tiny particles and make the juice clear and smooth.
Heat treated to stay fresh. Before apple juice is packaged, it gets heated through a process called pasteurization, which kills harmful germs so the juice stays fresh and safe to drink for longer.
Packed in different containers. Apple juice can be stored in glass bottles, metal cans, or special aseptic containers that keep it fresh without needing refrigeration right away.
Can be made into concentrate. Sometimes apple juice is dried out to become apple juice concentrate, which is much thicker and takes up less space, then you can add water back in when you want to drink it.
