Discovered multiple comets. Caroline found eight comets during her lifetime, including the one now called 35P/Herschel-Rigollet that still bears her name. Her discoveries made her famous across Europe.

Worked with her brother. Caroline moved from Germany to England to help her brother William Herschel with his astronomical work. They spent most of their lives working together to map the night sky.

First paid female scientist. Caroline became the first woman in England to receive a salary for scientific work, earning money as her brother's research assistant. This was groundbreaking at a time when women rarely had paying jobs in science.

Expert at night observations. She became so skilled at observing the night sky that she could spot new comets that others missed. Her sharp eyes and careful attention to detail made her discoveries possible.

Honored for her work. The Royal Astronomical Society recognized her achievements by awarding her a gold medal, making her the first woman to receive this prestigious honor in science.
