Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Computer's Brain. The CPU is like the brain of a computer. It reads instructions from programs and decides what to do next, whether that's math, making decisions, or talking to other parts of the computer.

Speed Matters Huge. CPUs work incredibly fast, doing billions of calculations every single second. The faster your CPU, the quicker your computer can do everything from running games to opening files.

Different Jobs Need Different Power. Your phone's CPU is smaller and uses less power than a desktop computer's CPU, but they do the same basic job of running your programs and telling your device what to do next.

Works with a Team. The CPU doesn't work alone. It teams up with memory (which stores information temporarily), graphics cards (which make images), and other parts to make your whole computer run smoothly.

Instructions All Day Long. Every program you run sends instructions to the CPU like a recipe. The CPU follows those instructions in order, doing arithmetic, making choices, and controlling what happens on screen.
