Star-shaped board. The game is played on a board shaped like a six-pointed star with 121 holes. Players start in one point of the star and try to move their pieces to the opposite point.

German, not Chinese. Despite its name, Chinese checkers actually came from Germany and was called Sternhalma, which means star game. It got the name Chinese checkers when it was marketed in America.

Jumping wins the race. Instead of moving one space at a time, you can jump over your own pieces or opponents' pieces to move faster across the board. This makes the game much quicker and more fun than older checkers games.

Play solo or team up. You can play Chinese checkers with two, three, four, or six players, either competing individually or working with partners. This makes it flexible for different group sizes.

Think ahead carefully. Winning requires strategy because you need to plan which pieces to move and when to jump, while also trying to block your opponents from reaching the finish line.
