Lucky red envelopes. During Chinese New Year, families give out red envelopes called hongbao filled with money or gifts to bring good fortune and happiness to loved ones, especially children.

Fireworks light the sky. Fireworks and firecrackers have been set off during Chinese New Year for centuries to scare away bad luck and welcome good things for the year ahead.

Follows the moon. Chinese New Year happens on a different date each year because it's based on the lunisolar calendar, which follows the moon's cycles rather than the regular calendar we use.

Lantern Festival finale. The celebration lasts for two full weeks, ending with the magical Lantern Festival on the 15th day when people release glowing lanterns and carry colorful lanterns through the streets.

Special celebration foods. Families prepare traditional dishes like dumplings and whole fish that have special meanings, symbolizing wealth, unity, and a fresh start for everyone at the meal.
