Rainforest cacti. Schlumbergera cacti live in the coastal mountains of southeastern Brazil, where they grow on trees and rocks in shady, humid forests instead of hot deserts like most cacti do.

Leafy-looking stems. Most Schlumbergera species have flat, leaf-like stems joined together like a chain, which is super different from the round spiky stems you see on desert cacti.

Colorful blooms. These plants grow beautiful flowers that come right out of the joints and tips of their stems, making them popular as houseplants in gardens around the world.

Tree huggers. Schlumbergera grows naturally by clinging to trees and rocks high up in the rainforest canopy, where it gets filtered light and plenty of moisture from the humid air.

Small but mighty. This genus only has about six to nine different species, making it one of the smaller groups of cacti, but each one has its own special look and personality.
