Captain of cameras. The cinematographer is the chief of all the camera and lighting crews on a film set. They make the big decisions about what equipment to use and how to position everything to capture the perfect shot.

Light creates mood. Cinematographers are artists of light and shadow. They choose where to place lights and how bright or dim to make scenes, which changes how we feel watching the movie. Bright, sunny light feels different from dark, moody shadows.

Color tells stories. After filming ends, cinematographers work on color grading to give the film its final look. A movie with warm golden tones feels cozy, while cool blue tones feel mysterious or sad.

Choosing the gear. Cinematographers pick the cameras, lenses, film stock, and special filters used in a production. Each choice affects the final image, from how sharp it is to what colors appear.

Vision comes to life. A cinematographer takes a director's creative vision and turns it into real images on screen. They're part artist, part engineer, solving problems to make scenes look exactly right.
