Cool Facts
Tracks your movement. The mouse detects how you move it across a surface like a desk or mousepad. This motion gets sent to your computer, which moves a pointer (called a cursor) on your screen.
Controls the screen. By moving the mouse, you can guide that pointer to click on buttons, select text, draw pictures, or play games. It gives you smooth, precise control over what happens on your computer.
Two-dimensional motion. The mouse measures movement in two directions at the same time: left-right and up-down. This lets you move the pointer anywhere on your screen quickly and accurately.
Essential computer tool. Since computers became popular, the mouse has been one of the main ways people interact with them. It works alongside the keyboard to help you do everything from writing documents to exploring the internet.
