How it works. A conveyor belt is a closed loop made of material that wraps around two or more wheels called pulleys. When one of these wheels (called the drive pulley) gets powered, it spins the belt, and anything sitting on top gets carried along for the ride.

Factory helper. Conveyor belts move boxes and packages across factory floors super fast, helping workers sort, pack, and ship things without having to carry them by hand. This keeps things moving smoothly and saves workers' energy.

Moving mountains of stuff. Bulk material conveyors handle enormous quantities of heavy materials like coal, grain, salt, sand, and ore. These giant belts can transport thousands of tons of material across long distances in mines, farms, and quarries.

Powered and unpowered. The spinning wheel that makes the belt move is called the drive pulley, while the other wheel it loops around is called the idler pulley. The idler pulley just spins along without needing power, like it's going for a free ride.

Everywhere you look. Conveyor belts are one of the most common machines in the world because they make moving heavy stuff so much easier and faster. You'll find them in factories, airports, grocery stores, mines, and farms almost everywhere.
